To prevent blisters on your feet, however, you need to know how to avoid friction with yourself.
A blister is a natural reaction to protect the skin against the harmful effects of friction. If you see one, you know there is likely a problem that needs to be addressed. Of course, if you find and take care of these problems beforehand, you might never get a blister to begin with.
The first place to look should always be your shoes and socks. Make sure the shoes you have fit properly, which means being neither too tight or too loose. Your shoes should also be designed for the activities you engage. They should be flexible, durable, and water-resistant enough according to the job.
For socks, look for seamless, moisture-wicking materials that keep your feet dry and don’t have knotty bits that can rub up against your feet. Some active individuals will double up on their socks, wearing two pairs for added cushioning. It’s worth experimenting, but not everyone will find this route comfortable. If you have certain areas you know cause trouble, placing a patch or even some cheap paper tape from the drugstore can provide enough of a barrier to prevent blisters from forming.
